Where to Kayak in Oahu

Kayaking in Hawaii is a great way to experience the state’s many beauties and the Pacific Ocean. There are landscapes you simply can’t get from the shore, and the best place to kayak in Hawaii is none other than Oahu. More specifically, Haleiwa! And we’re here to tell you all the reasons why.
Why you should go Kayaking in Haleiwa
The Historic Haleiwa town is located on the Northshore of Oahu. Haleiwa means “House of the Frigatebird”, which is a unique tropical bird with obsidian black feathers and long beaks. You just might see one or hundreds while you’re kayaking. But that’s not all! There’s a high chance you’ll see Green Sea Turtles and various tropical fish swimming around your kayak as well!
The best part? You can drop in right at the mouth of the Anahulu river which is especially great for the winter months when the surf by the Northshore is restless. While not ideal for kayaking, this gorgeous stretch of uninterrupted waves is a sight to behold. Surfers don’t call it the Seven-Mile Miracle for nothing! Haleiwa is known for its unmatched surfing conditions.
But don’t worry because from September to April you can paddle up the Anahulu river and see taro and flower patches throughout your adventure, and magnificent views of the rainbow bridge along the way. During the summer you can paddle through the calm and relaxing ocean. No matter when you come, you can’t go wrong!
Don’t have a Kayak? No Problem!
Surf N’ Sea’s got your back. We rent out our one OR two-man kayaks Monday through Sunday. That’s right! Seven days a week! We’re open 9 a.m. to 7 pm. too, so go for an early morning ride or an after-dinner cruise. You can even rent your kayak for the entire day. Surf N’ Sea lets you plan your adventure on your time, or as Hawaii locals like to call it, Island time!
Our shop sits right on the beach and has the perfect spot to launch your one or two-man kayak. Explore on your one-man ship where you make the rules or have your bestie right by your side to share paddling duties! It’s a vacation, right? Relax as much as possible!

Other things to do while you’re in Haleiwa
Don’t stop at just Kayaking. Surf N’ Sea offers surf lessons, scuba diving, whale watching, and SUP (stand up paddle boarding). Want a rush of adrenaline? You can even brave our shark cage! Here at Surf N’ Sea, we offer something for everyone.
You and your family and friends could always hang out at the famous Haleiwa Alii Beach Park for something a little more relaxing. This area has the safest nearshore waters, but you should still always check with the lifeguards for conditions.
When you’ve completed your day at the beach, Haleiwa continues to offer fun through the city’s rich history. This is a hopping spot as well as one of the safest cities in Hawaii. The streets are filled with lovely art galleries and historic buildings. Visit the Haleiwa Art Gallery and admire the inspiring works of many Hawaii-based artists. Their work embodies the natural beauty of the very Island you’ll be standing on. Afterward, be sure to stop by the historical Waialua Courthouse and Haleiwa Shingon Mission, or purchase a vacation keepsake at any of the local shops!
