Surf Lessons in Hawaii: What to Expect
If you ever wanted to take surf lessons Hawaii is the best place in the world to learn how to surf. Not only will you have the opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced surf instructors but, you’ll also be able to enjoy the warm tropical waters in Hawaii and some of the best waves on the planet. In this blog post, we’ll discuss what to expect from a surf lesson in Hawaii. We’ll also provide some tips that will help make your experience as enjoyable as possible!
Before You Start
The first thing to keep in mind before you book a surf lesson is your comfort level in the ocean. You must be able to swim and be comfortable with being in the ocean. If you are comfortable swimming in the ocean with waves and have the desire to feel the indescribable rush of riding waves then do not hesitate to take a surf lesson. Who knows….you may even get hooked on the rush of riding waves!
What to bring
When you show up for your first surf lesson in Hawaii, you’ll want to be prepared. Here’s what to bring:
-A comfortable swimsuit or boardshorts.
-Rashguard…Most surf schools provide rashguards but, it’s a good idea to bring your own just in case
-Sunscreen
-A beach towel
-A water bottle
-Snacks and drinks (if you’re planning on spending a full day at the beach)
Most importantly, don’t forget your sense of adventure! Surfing is an amazing experience that you will never forget. Surf lessons are also a great way to learn about wave riding, and ocean safety, along with having a ton of fun in the process.
If you’re taking surf lessons with us at Surf N’ Sea, we provide all of the necessary equipment needed for surfing. Just show up with your towel, sunscreen & some drinking water.
What to expect during your surf lesson
When you arrive for your surf lesson, the first thing you’ll do is meet your instructor. They will go over some basic safety information with you, and then it will be time to hit the water! Remember the instructor will have you practice a few things on dry land before jumping right into the water. This will help you prepare for the motions and techniques that are used to catch and ride waves.
During your lesson, you’ll learn about wave selection, break lineup, paddling techniques, and how to stand up on your board. Once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll have the knowledge to catch and ride waves. If you are patient and committed to learning how to surf you will be able to paddle and catch waves on your own without an instructor in no time.
Etiquette for surfing in Hawaii
Just like anywhere else in the world, there are certain rules and expectations that come with surfing in Hawaii. A good instructor should teach you the basics of being respectful while surfing. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
-Be respectful of locals and visitors alike
-Respect the ocean & land environments
-Give way to more advanced & experienced surfers and do not drop in on other surfers
