Leave the hamburgers and hot dogs at home this Memorial Day, and celebrate the start of summer with a new tradition. Head over to the 8th annual Haleiwa SUP Race for a variety of stand up paddleboard races, clinics and fun.

Here are three things to know about the stand up paddleboard race:

How it works:
Events start at 8:15 a.m., when registration opens. Choose from a variety of courses and board lengths.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for both men and women in a variety of age categories.

There is also a Keiki Relay and Clinic to get the young ones involved.

Courses:
There’s something for everyone at these stand up paddleboard races. The main 4-mile course travels along the beach from Waimea Bay Beach Park to Haleiwa. The sprint course leaves from the beach across the street from Surf N Sea and travels out around a buoy near Pua’ena Point Beach Park before returning to the start. An agility course zig zags around flags in the bay in front of Surf N Sea, and there’s even a Keiki course for the young SUP-er in your family.

Register:
Have we piqued your interest? Register for any of the categories, which are broken down by the size of board, age and gender of the competitor.

The entry fee is $40, and get an awesome shirt to commemorate the event for just $20 extra.

There is a max of 200 contestants, so get your registration in as soon as possible!

There is a free Keiki relay race for the first 20 to register for the spots.

Checks can be made out to Surf N Sea, and returned to our shop.

Not interested in competing? Come out and watch the fun. It’s going to be awesome!
